VMRF(DU) proposes to progressively improve the energy efficiency of its existing buildings and infrastructure through energy conservation, adoption of energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy integration and regular performance monitoring. The initiatives will cover academic buildings, administrative offices, laboratories, libraries, hospitals, hostels and other institutional facilities, guided by the recommendations of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India, and applicable Energy Conservation Building Codes.

Key Energy Conservation Measures

1. Energy Audits: Conduct periodic energy audits to identify energy losses, inefficient equipment and opportunities for reducing electricity consumption.

2. LED Lighting and Automation: Replace conventional and CFL lighting with LED fixtures and progressively convert existing LED lighting to sensor-based systems using occupancy and motion sensors.

3. Energy-Efficient Equipment: Replace inefficient air conditioners, fans, pumps, motors, lifts and other electrical appliances with energy-efficient and higher star-rated equipment wherever feasible.

4. HVAC Optimisation: Improve air-conditioning efficiency through regular maintenance, optimal temperature settings, efficient operating schedules and energy-saving technologies.

5. Solar Energy Utilisation: Install rooftop solar photovoltaic systems wherever feasible and explore solar water heaters, solar streetlights and other renewable-energy applications.

6. Energy-Efficient Construction: Incorporate applicable ECBC requirements and energy-efficient building design principles into all future construction, renovation and infrastructure development projects. Prefer renovation and retrofitting over new construction wherever practical.

7. Sustainable Infrastructure: Promote responsible construction waste management and protect existing trees and green spaces during infrastructure development.
