Goal 14

Life Below Water

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

About this goal

VMRF (DU) supports Life Below Water through water conservation, responsible waste management, and environmental protection. Proper management of plastic, biomedical, and institutional waste helps reduce pollution of water bodies. The University promotes awareness of pollution prevention, responsible waste disposal, and sustainable use of water resources. Environmental education and research encourage students and researchers to understand aquatic ecosystems, water quality, and conservation challenges.

Why this goal matters to us

VMRF (DU) can contribute to SDG 14 by promoting environmental education, research, and awareness of the importance of protecting aquatic ecosystems. Through academic activities, student engagement, and environmental awareness programmes, the University can encourage responsible practices that help prevent water pollution and protect marine and freshwater biodiversity.

VMRF DU can further support SDG 14 through initiatives focused on plastic pollution prevention, responsible waste disposal, water-quality awareness, and collaboration with environmental organisations and local communities, wherever applicable. Encouraging students and staff to reduce plastic waste, prevent pollutants from entering water bodies, and participate in aquatic ecosystem conservation activities can strengthen environmental responsibility and contribute to the protection of natural resources.
