Zero Hunger

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

About this goal

Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), established by the United Nations as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. It emphasises ensuring access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food throughout the year, eliminating all forms of malnutrition, and supporting sustainable food production systems. SDG 2 also highlights the importance of improving agricultural productivity, strengthening food systems, and building resilience against challenges that threaten food availability and nutrition.

Why this goal matters to us

VMRF (DU) can contribute to SDG 2 through nutrition education, health awareness, community outreach, and the promotion of healthy and balanced dietary practices. Through its academic, healthcare, and community engagement activities, the University can support awareness of malnutrition, nutritional deficiencies, food safety, and the importance of balanced diets. Initiatives involving students, faculty members, healthcare professionals, and community partners can help promote informed food choices and improve understanding of the relationship between nutrition and overall health.

The University can further support the objectives of SDG 2 by encouraging responsible food consumption, minimising food waste, promoting hygienic food handling, and adopting sustainable practices in food services and community programmes. Collaboration with healthcare institutions, community organisations, and other stakeholders can strengthen efforts to improve nutrition and food security among vulnerable populations. Through these initiatives, VMRF (DU) can contribute to the broader goal of building healthier communities and advancing a future in which everyone has access to adequate, safe, and nutritious food.
