Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
Plan to reduce energy consumption
Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (Deemed to be University) aims to progressively reduce energy consumption across its campuses through a systematic energy-efficiency plan guided by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India, including the Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code 2024.
The plan covers academic buildings, administrative offices, laboratories, libraries, hospitals, hostels and other institutional facilities through the following measures:
1. Energy Assessment: Periodic review of electricity bills and consumption patterns to identify energy-intensive areas and opportunities for savings.
2. Energy-Efficient Equipment: Progressive replacement of conventional lighting with LED lights and adoption of energy-efficient electrical appliances and equipment.
3. Efficient Air-Conditioning and Ventilation: Regular maintenance and optimum operation of HVAC systems based on occupancy and operational requirements.
4. Sustainable Building Management: Improving natural lighting, ventilation, shading, insulation and energy efficiency in existing buildings.
5. Renewable Energy: Exploring rooftop solar power and other suitable renewable energy sources.
6. Energy Conservation Awareness: Encouraging faculty, staff and students to switch off electrical equipment when not in use through awareness programmes and operational practices.
7. Energy Monitoring: Periodic monitoring of electricity consumption, use of energy meters and assessment of building energy performance wherever feasible.
8. Continuous Improvement: Implementing energy-saving measures in phases based on audit findings, feasibility and expected savings, with regular performance reviews.
Through these initiatives, VMRF(DU) aims to minimise energy wastage, reduce electricity costs, improve operational efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Progress will be documented through energy bills, audit reports, equipment records, renewable energy data and records of conservation measures implemented.
